Day 3, Lick 3: Nashville Pedal Steelin' (twang, but not that twang)

Today's lick is called Nashville Pedal Steelin'.  This one was really hard for me and I realized that the reason why is because I'm having to relearn so much and do what is completely unnatural to me!  I love the blues, and so my style is very legato, with every note connected, but this country riff is supposed to be very staccato with a few legato bends in it.  Man, totally different world!  I love country licks like these, but man are they hard for me to play.

I'm not too proud of this one, but I did a bunch of takes and I think my hands are getting tired and it will only get worse from here.  This lick is supposed to be twangy, but I'm not pressing down on the strings hard enough at parts so things buzz a little bit and give and unwanted "twang"- like sound.  Anyway, here it is!

Day 2, Lick 2: A Jazzy Blues Lick in A

Today's lick is a jazzy, blues, sort of bebop lick in the key of A.  This one was hard!  It was like skiing and skipping at the same time and my fingers kept tripping over each other.  I think its funny, you can see the frustration on my face, haha!

Most of my blogrimage will be stuff like this, actual licks.  PGS calls what I played yesterday a lick, but its really a whole song instead of just one lick.  This lick was from the app Guitar Lick a Day instead.  This one more represents the purpose of this blogrimage.  It was hard, challenging, I had to work at it, and I'm a better player for it!

Day 1, Lick 1: Thickfreakness by The Black Keys

Let the Blogrimage begin!!!

For my blogrimage I will be learning and performing a guitar lick everyday.  Last year I got this app called Guitar Lick a Day and gave myself the goal to at least attempt to learn a lick every day, and my guitar playing exponentially grew!  After about a month I gave up on learning every lick, every day, but I still learned many of those guitar parts and it was an awesome journey.

However a year ago I gave up on that practice and its one that I'd like to get back into because of how beneficially it was to my playing.  This lick was pulled from a Pro Guitar Shop lick of the day (hereby referred to as PGS).  You can check out the lesson here.  I'm going to try and pull the licks I learn either from there or from Guitar Lick a Day app.  Keep in mind, some of these are very tough and I may not be able to master them in a day, but I will do my best!  Most of the PGS ones are pretty easy, including todays, but every time I learn one I feel like I can add something to my repertoire.

Please enjoy my very first video blog!
